I think JC'd be more likely to worry that the capitalists are going to ruin it:
“But woe to you who are rich, for you have already received your comfort.”
“He has sent me to bring good news to the poor, to proclaim liberty to captives, and to the blind new sight, to set the downtrodden free, to proclaim the Lord's year of redistribution!”
“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside you are full of greed and self-indulgence.”
Quoting Christ doesn't make you a follower, actions do. As for me:
Are all capitalists rich? I live within my means. I'm far from rich. As a matter of fact, there's a good chance you make more than I.
Redistribution? Self indulgence? Greed? Apparently you're trying to judge me because of my political agenda while you are a baby-killer, distributor of narcotics for the poor, and supporter of murdering tyrants.
You see, I too can generalize on someone's political agenda.
I make $20-30K a year, give or take. Wealthy by global standards, and therefore, one to fall under Jesus' warnings to the wealthy. I was speaking to me and all of us by quoting Jesus on money, not judging you in particular.
But making judgements is not bad. What Jesus criticized was hypocritical judging and condemning of others when you're as guilty as they are.
So relax, brother. You're under no judgement from me. I was just responding to the "Don't let the commies ruin it" joke under the pic with some biblical reality.
The commies line meant all the people trying to take Jesus away from Christmas. Nothing more than how the the ACLU is at war with Christians and how we cannot speak of the birth of Christ, etc.
I apologize for being rash but it came off quite, accusing/judgemental.
I think that our own consumerism is the real foundation to the crass take on Christmas. We are driven to finding the lowest price, encouraging stores like Wal-Mart, K-Mart, etc. into commercializing Christmas and so forth.
The US is driven by materialism because of outlets like hollywood and pop culture - thus creating big corporations to capitalize on this. Really we could point fingers all day but the general populous won't change.
You wouldn't know about this Neo, but the commercialization is no where near as bad as what the public school systems are doing up in our neck of the woods.
Several scattered public grade schools north of the city and in Dousman, WI. are BANNING Christian/Catholic Christmas carols. Instead, the children are being taught traditional Hannukah and Kwanzaa carols.
I don't have a problem with kids learning about other religions and songs. Whatever, fine by me. But, to BAN Christian/Catholic Christmas carols altogether is absolutely heinous and asinine. They are completely taking the real reason for the season out.
One of these schools, the one in Dousman, changed the words to "Silent Night" as to leave out any sign of Christianity, and announced that they will not have a Christmas Pageant, but instead a Holiday Pageant.
Totally not cool. That happened in Florida as well. A Muslim group asked that the School Board honor their holidays as well so the School Board came back and eliminated all holidays.
Well.... that didn't work out. A huge outrage erupted and Catholic/Christian and Jewish holidays were put back on the calendar.
This country was founded on a judeo-christian/free religion basis - if you don't like it, get the ____ out.
I think the concern with being both wealthy and moral is the old adage of worshipping a false god - perhaps the golden calf. The story was told how when Moses left to talk with God, the people were lost, and in an effort to relinquish this feeling they used their material goods to create a god.
They all removed their jewelry, gold, silver, pewter, etc., and melted it. After molding the calf, the people were actually worshipping their own 'wealth.'
In this day and age, it seems that the wealthier just want to keep getting wealthier, indulging in materialism while forgetting their values and ethics at home. Too many times do we see CEOs get locked up because these millionaires were trying to take MORE money.
So, I believe living within your means comfortably is the way Christ wants. To succumb to materialism and money is not. In other words, tread carefully when living comfortably becomes living frivolously.
Wow! This comment string is quite tangential but interesting.
First, I'd like to start by saying I think we're in agreeance. And yes, if you noticed the two links I have to your site, which I read daily, I know it's your picture. I also understand that you don't want the commies (ie ACLU, lefties, dimowhits) to take away Christmas from the holiday season. I understand that wholly and am in total agreement.
Secondly, the capitalist v. morality debate occured when Trabue began quoting Christ and I took it as an accusation.
Furthermore, I recognize your analogy of the golden calf but mine is also relative. Many Old Testament stories are symbolic that can be equated directly to any time period, in this case, 21st century greed and in your case, the birth of the motherland.
Geez. Do you really take me for that? I'm really quite the opposite. My name might be misleading but if you read the disclaimer following my name banner, you'll understand. Also, check my profile - number one interest is.... Catholicism.

Judging people is bad. Shame on you Dan Trabue.

Merry Christmas.

And the capitalist line has to do with how all the walmarts, etc are cheapening Christmas with crass commercialism... this is what I was targeting.
Apologies for any confusion.

What a bunch of horse shit.

Agreed. And with that, we have reached a ten comment posting.
Funny, original post consisted of a picture and a handful of words...

RE: Christ was a communist" bull that I see all over the place.
Yeah, he's the opposite. DAN is the one who buys in to what the Bible says...
Dan I know you are the opposite. I know you believe in the bible as do I.
I don't think the Red Square was implying that on you. I think he's speaking in generalities.
Not that I should speak in generalities for him. LOL
If you're interested, I've ran a two part series on the bible, wealth and poverty on my blog. fyi.
I'll check it out this weekend and give you my review on Monday.
