Plot to Kill Obama: Shoot From High Vantage Point

ReportingDenver's U.S. attorney is expected to speak on Tuesday afternoon about the arrests of four people suspected in a possible plot to shoot Barack Obama at his Thursday night acceptance speech in Denver. All are being held on either drug or weapons charges.
One of those suspects spoke exclusively to CBS4 investigative reporter Brian Maass from inside the Denver City Jail late Monday night and said his friends had discussed killing Obama.
"So your friends were saying threatening things about Obama?" Maass asked.
"Yeah," Nathan Johnson replied.
"It sounded like they didn't want him to be president?"
"Yeah," Johnson said.
Maass reported earlier Monday that one of the suspects told authorities they were "going to shoot Obama from a high vantage point using a ... rifle ... sighted at 750 yards."
Law enforcement sources told Maass that one of the suspects "was directly asked if they had come to Denver to kill Obama. He responded in the affirmative."
I don't know what about the story is wrong but something seems fishy. Yes, I'm just thinking out-loud and I do take any attempt at another's life as serious but something about this case...

Next: a hunting rifle "sighted at 750 yards"?
Not even close to realistic--IF it actually was "sighted" for 750.
Damn good hunters can hit at 300 or 400 yards, REALLY damn good hunters at 500 (with high-end rifles ($1200++) and scopes ($500++)
At 750, you better have really good training and a REALLY good rifle. The military pays around $10K each for their sniper .30cals w/scope.
They're just crazies.

Wrong. The FEDS will not press charges--but the locals will:
Shawn Robert Adolf, age 33. Adolf is charged with one count of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, one count of possession of body armor by a violent felon, and one count of possession of Methamphetamine.
Nathan Dwaine Johnson, age 32. Johnson is charged with one count of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, and one count of possession of Methamphetamine.
Tharin Robert Gartrell, age 28. Gartrell is charged with one count of possession of Methamphetamine.
If convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm, the defendants face not more than 10 years in federal prison, and up to a $250,000 fine. If convicted of possession of body armor by a violent felon, the defendant will face not more than 3 years in federal prison, and up to a $250,000 fine. If convicted of possession of Methamphetamine, the defendants face either 2 years in federal prison, or up to 20 years, depending on the amount of Methamphetamine possessed.
