Could this be....

Bush is threatening a veto. I repeat, Bush is threatening with a veto. I'm impressed. Breitbart reports:

"In over five years in office, Bush has never vetoed any bill. But he said that restraining spending was crucial to cutting the deficit in half by 2009 as he has promised. "If necessary, I will enforce spending restraint through the exercise of the veto," the president said."

Excuse my language but its about damn time. We've been spending like drunken sailors and it must stop. Granted, the economy is booming and unemployment is at a low, that doesn't mean that it's okay for the government to spend. Republicans and conservatives must be fiscally-sound and that is far from the case in the five years. My biggest disappointment in Bush is his spending habits but this might be his turning point.

By threatening veto, he's apparently showing that he does want to cut the deficit in half by 2009 like he promised. I feel we need substantial changes in government spending to do this. We can potentially alleviate this deficit and show the strength of the Republican party. By cutting spending and making the tax cuts permanent, I think the party will gain more trust and potentially sweep 2006.

Amen!!! I totally agree. Although I think the Republicans and W have tried to restrain spending it just hasn't come across that way. Delay explained it in his interview with Rush and I've heard others explain it too.

Yeah the republicans have tried so hard to restrain spending but little liberal fairies came out of liberal land and just exploded the deficit and blew away the surplus left by Clinton/Gore. Its a liberal fairy conspiracy but of course I could be wrong. Perhaps bin laden snuck across our southern border and spent all our money and charged us into a bankrupting debt.

On the other hand it could be that the philosophy of the neo-cons is chaos, revolution, continual war and bankruptcy. That was the philosopy of Leo Strauss and he is the philospher of Bill Kristol and those at Project for the New American Century.

How can you believe that anyone is worried about terrorists at the same moment they leave our borders open for corporate america to import slaves for those jobs that have not yet been outsourced?

The republicans never listened to their base. The republican party is the party of big business. doh!

Check out this article if you want to learn the philosophy of the neo-cons. You are correct not to want anything to do with them. They are a new group of Americans who want to overthrow the traditional American power elite and replace it. They are doing a fairly good job at discrediting christians and Christianity which is the basis that America was built upon by using rightwing christians, don't ya think?

I agree the spending has to be cut, but I also understand why spending has been so important during a time of war along with disasters in bibical portions, etc, etc. Since Bush has taken office, our world has changed drasically which was not his fault. The signs of the times now...have been costly in more ways than one.

LMC - As always, we're in agreeance.

July - I just visited your site and wow!, you have a lot of pepper. Um, my post is about our spending problem and I think that even though Republicans are in charge, the real issue is politicians as a whole.

ABS - Good point. War spending is very common and I don't disagree with it but you have to consider, Bush has yet to veto a bill as president. Is his pen out of ink or what?!?
