Well, bluff or not, we need to take action. Iran, probably the biggest threat the United States ever, has now officially enriched uranium. The public debate is now heated over the talks of failed diplomacy and an inevitable attack option. Yahoo says it quite clearly:
"It seems likely that precision airstrikes could set Iran's nuclear program back at least a year and perhaps several. Whether that delay is worth the probable consequences - the strengthening of a despotic regime within Iran and the increased likelihood of terrorism in nearby Iraq and the broader region - is what's at issue."
We need to concern ourselves with the imminent backlash, considering the Middle East region and how they respond to America.
"Surely, Iran would retaliate through a more aggressive terrorism campaign, he and others say, and with US troops close at hand in Iraq, they could become the first targets. Iran could also try to close the narrow Strait of Hormuz - through which all Persian Gulf traffic, including oil tankers, must pass."
It something to be considered but by no means should we base our fate on who will we offend (liberal premise). I for one feel we need to eliminate President Douche Bag Mahmoud Ahmadinejad immediately, otherwise Israel or the US will suffer drastically. Granted, I don't think the "nuclear option" is actually an option but either way, we need to cook them.

What does "cooking them" look like? What actions ought we take?
Hey Dan, whre you been?
I think you know what I mean by cooking Dan. I struggle with pre-emptive wars and its hard to always promote war but rationally, Iran is an enemy.
As far as actions, I feel we can strategically bomb their nuclear facilities and help promote the student population and their efforts of democracy.
You can't seriously feel that Iran isn't a threat. Furthermore, WWJD?
I've been lurking. I had missed these last few posts, though.
I'd say, rationally, Iran is a nation. It's up to us whether we consider them an enemy or not. Even if they consider us an enemy, we still have the power to decide if we want them to be our enemies. I'd vote for not. We have more to lose than gain by making them enemies.
I seriously don't think Iran is any more serious a threat to the US than many other nations, or that the US is to other nations. I'd say we are a pretty big threat to them, though.
What are they going to do to us? Bomb us? Well, maybe, if we are indeed the sort of threat that Bush is implying with his talk of nuking them.
I'd say we have a lot more to lose than gain by invading Iran (see Iraq). At some point, the world is going to start thinking we are a huge threat to world peace. And where we don't have much to fear from Iran or Iraq, if many nations around the world perceive us to be a threat, they may decide to team up and do a little preemptive striking of their own.
Seems to me.
WWJD, indeed. Bomb Iran? I think not.
I know WJWD, it was more of a joke. All religion aside, self-defense of our liberties is completely justifiable.
As far as us attacking Iran, you make some valid points. I'm not some war-monger, I'd prefer we mind our own business actually and worry about our problems at home.
However, I don't want to be viewed as a rollover. We need to defend our safety and the safety of countries that cannot (Israel). In this case, the Islamic rhetoric is very similar to that of Hitler's, and we all know if we could've prevented the war by bombing Germany, I think we all would've. And I already know your argument, 'How could you compare President Douche Bag Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to Hitler?' I think that was too easy, I feel he's more dangerous than Hitler would've ever been.
I'm troubled with much of our Foreign Policy but that doesn't have party boundaries, any president you'd prefer in office would truly do the same.
Cook them....we should!!
It is truly more serious than we know....We need to do something within days....not months. They are way far advanced....than what is exposed in the media.
Cook them? Have you considered the costs and the repercussions?
Did you know that Iran came out ahead of Iraq in the First Persian Gulf War? Did you know that Iran has spent the last 18 years— since the end of that war— rebuilding, whereas Iraq got pasted in the Second Persian Gulf War and the economic aftermath of its cease-fire arrangements?
And even with the lack of resources that Iraq had, it's cost hundreds of billions of dollars and tens of thousands of lives just to get to the point we are now with Iraq?
Before we start cooking, would you mind if I insist on having an idea of where the trillion + dollars will come from to pay for it? Where the soldiers will come from to wage it? What we'll do with all the additional "terrorists" that this war generates?
Keep in mind: Iran will likely require 1) a military draft, 2) a war bonds push, 3) oil rationing, and 4) significant casualties (hundreds - not tens - of thousands of men, women, children - ours and theirs) and we must be prepared for the unknown repercussions of a US that appears to many around the world to be bent on the destruction of the middle east.
Well said!! Alls I can say is ditto!!!!!!!
Hope you are doing okay...it sure is quiet over here. Are you soaking up the sun??? (smiling)
nuke Iran...O wait we can't...what with...bordering places...
Ever wish these damn terror havens were Islands? Then we could make em a crater!
To dream....
p.s. kickin' place ^_~
